TWELVE fridges were ditched in the middle of a North Nibley road last night in a case of fly-tipping that one resident said could have caused a “terrible accident”.
The refrigerators appear to have been flung off a moving lorry and currently line the sides of the road between North Nibley Church and the A38 after a Good Samaritan heaved them into a less dangerous position.
Nick Sparks, who lives nearby, was returning home yesterday evening when he came across the fridges strewn down the centre of the road.
His wife, Sarah, spoke the Gazette this afternoon.
She said: “My husband was coming back from work and he saw several fridges in the middle of the road.
“They were really heavy but he managed to move them off the carriageway.
“It must have happened last night because I can’t imagine anybody else passing through and leaving them there.
“Someone could have had a terrible accident.”
Another man contacted the Gazette with regard to the same incident, noting that the fridges had made a mess of the area and adding that he, as with Sarah and Nick, had notified the council.
After a similar incident in March this year, a spokesman for Stroud District Council said: “We take all instances of fly-tipping very seriously.
“Once we’re informed, we check the waste as soon as we can for any evidence which may help us track down the culprits and prosecute them.”
