COMMUTERS travelling through Coalpit Heath can expect some disruption over the next few weeks as work to replace water mains is underway.
The mains renewal work is being carried out by Bristol Water on Badminton Road (A432) between Oakwood Gardens and Frog Lane, and started on Monday, March 16.
There are three-way traffic lights in place at the moment which are controlled manually at peak times.
These will be used until March 19, when two-way traffic lights will then be put in place for the remainder of the works.
Alison Jennings, communications manager at Bristol Water, said: “Bristol Water apologises for any inconvenience caused while we carry out this mains renewal scheme. This is essential work to maintain water quality in the area and we are using a process called slip lining, which involves inserting a new plastic pipe into the existing main.
"This minimises the amount of open trenches we have to excavate and enables the work to be done more quickly with less disruption.
"No businesses will be directly affected by the works, and we notified everyone in the area beforehand.
"We do appreciate that these works will cause traffic disruption and we will do our best to minimise this by managing the lights at peak hours.
"We appreciate people’s patience as we carry out this work as part of our continuing commitment to improving our water network.”
The work is expected to finish on April 13.
