A WOMAN from Wotton-under-Edge who went missing in woodland was found by police and rescue teams in an extensive mission on Easter Sunday morning.
Beverly Brown, 20, fell down a hill while walking through the Westridge Wood - which is bordered by Wotton, North Nibley and Dursley - and was only able to call and make a brief attempt at explaining where she was before her phone died.
The extensive search came to a head following a large rescue operation involving scores of people from various rescue teams and Gloucestershire Police.
Ms Brown first went missing in in the wood at 6.30pm on Saturday, April 4. The following morning the police released a statement with a spokesman saying she was likely “stranded” in the wood, adding that “she has a number of health problems and is in need of medical assistance”.
The police, along with Longtown Mountain Rescue Team, Search and Rescue Dog Association and Severn Area Rescue Association, embarked on an extensive search on Easter Sunday morning.
Hours later, at about 11.30am, Ms Brown was found. She had sustained injuries but was conscious and was carried to a nearby ambulance by stretcher.
Alex Barker, 31, from London, was in North Nibley at an Easter family gathering at his grandmother’s house.
He and a group of family members went out for a walk to the Tyndale Monument on the Sunday morning and were surprised to see the enormous rescue mission taking place.
“There were loads of people and mountain rescue teams and police. People seemed to have come from all over the place,” Mr Barker said.
“We didn’t see too many people on the way up, just vehicles, but when we were coming back down it was just as they found her. There was a lot of commotion and people rushing around and about 10 people carrying her by stretcher to the ambulance. It was pretty full scale.
“It’s definitely not what you expect on an Easter Sunday morning.”
Team leader from Longtown MRT Luke Lewis praised the work of the various rescue teams on the day.
He said: “It was a busy Easter Sunday for our team members and good to work with our colleagues from SARA and SARDA.
“All our members are highly trained volunteers and are on call 24 hours a day seven days a week. They were away from their own families on Easter Sunday and I’d like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to all of them.”
