AN ASPIRING young photographer from Hawkesbury Upton has produced a series of hard-hitting political pieces in the wake of the general election.
Seventeen-year-old Joss Beeley studies photography at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College and produces work stemming from a wide-range of influences.
A former student of Katharine Lady Berkeley’s school in Wotton-under-Edge, Joss has most recently created a series of digitally altered political photos satirising the country’s best known politicians.
Joss described himself as a mixed media photographer with a background in street art.
“I want to create powerful images that make people think but can be enjoyed by any age group.
“I speak the truth through my work and I would ultimately like to work for a newspaper or a magazine.”
Some of his latest images include Nigel Farage coupled with Jesus Christ, lampooning the Ukip leader’s ‘resurrection’ following a three day departure.
Another takes on the troubled relationship between America and North Korea with an ironic image of president Barrack Obama embracing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Others pass comment on the NHS and fears it will become depleted under further rule of David Cameron.
“One of the inspirations behind these particular pieces and using higher powers was the message that we all bleed red. It's an attempt to show that we’re all the same and highlight the worthlessness of racism.
“The ones themed around the NHS are about fears the service will be lost under further control of the country by David Cameron.”
Joss currently works at the youth club in Wotton, where he was formerly a student, and says he spends most of his time there.
Having had work displayed in the past to audiences in the town, it serves as one of the driving forces behind his inspiration.
“I find a lot of inspiration from Wotton and a lot of my audience live there. I work at the youth club and am basically there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
The political pieces by Joss will go towards his end of year show at SGS College.
