FIREFIGHTERS raced to an electrical substation in Winterbourne yesterday morning following reports of a loud explosion.
Crews from Yate and Kingswood were called out at 10.39am after reports of the explosion and a large flash.
Upon arrival at the substation on Beacon Lane, Winterbourne, it was found that cooling liquid had ruptured from tanks.
After inspection by firefighters, it was found that there was no fire present and the scene was handed over to Western Power Distribution.
A spokesman for Western Power Distribution told the Gazette that work would be ongoing for the next three-to-four days to repair the damage, which resulted from a faulty insulator.
The spokesman however confirmed that no residences had lost power following the incident, and that there would be no disruption to power throughout the repairs.
