THIS year’s Pilning Carnival has been declared a rousing success by organisers.
More than 2,000 people attended the carnival on Saturday, which included a colourful procession through the village, entertainment on the village field, a marching band, kites, Irish dancers, a variety of stalls and a barbecue.
Last year the Pilning Carnival faced folding but was saved at the last minute by a new group of volunteers.
Ray Edwards, from the new Pilning Carnival committee, said: "It was a fantastic day. The reports we have had back from people is that it was the best one they’ve been to.
"The new committee should be really proud of themselves they did a tremendous job and gave 150 percent to the carnival. The help we had from local people was also fantastic.
"We don’t have a final figure yet for how much was raised but we think it is going to exceed previous years. All the money will go to local community groups and they are going to get a good lump sum. Some of the money will be used to fund next year’s carnival.
"We are definitely going to have another carnival next year in fact we have already started talking about it and planning how we can make it even better."
