A MILESTONE visit turned into a celebration at the Wotton Electric Picture House as the 100,000th customer crossed the threshold.
The volunteer-run cinema has gone from strength to strength since it re-opened in 2005. And it was during last Friday night’s screening of Jane Eyre that the 100,000th customer entered the 100 seater cinema. Anne Cross, of Cherry Orchard, Wotton-under-Edge, had the lucky ticket and was presented with a bottle of champagne, a box of chocolates and a brand new Wotton-under-Edge photo calendar by Electric Picture House volunteer Rob Carruthers.
Over the past six years, the Electric Picture House has screened more than 2,500 showings of 600 different films. It has also hosted fundraising events and donated more than £25,000 to local causes.
Janet Walshe, who helps run the cinema, which celebrates its sixth anniversary this month, said: "It's a fantastic milestone and that's what's allowed us to put £25,000 back into local projects. I remember having our 1,000th customer. I never dreamed it could so so well."
