HUNDREDS of books changed hands this weekend during a regional event held in Easter Compton on Saturday.
The Annual South West Region Observer’s Book Fair, held for the 11th year at the village hall, saw over 100 patrons visit to view the range of stalls and table of books available to swap, or on sale for as little as 50 pence, with some more sought after editions were up for grabs in the event's auction.
Among the estimated 500 books sold at the event, included a rare 1937 first edition of Birds, which was sold for £150, and an even scarcer limited edition of Commercial Vehicles, which was sold for £500.
Richard Edwards, the fair’s organiser and auctioneer, said: “The auction proved to be quite entertaining, but there weren’t quite enough interested bidders there for the more expensive items to sell.
“However, we did put the unsuccessful bidders in contact with the sellers and in many cases they agreed on a price somewhere in between.
“These meetings will move on to six other locations around the country in 2016 but will return to this venue at the same time next year. We hope that many of the new visitors we had this time around will be back with us as members for 2017.”
