SEAN RIGG is relishing the chance to prove himself on loan at Forest Green.

The Wotton-based striker, who played youth football for Charfield, is on the transfer list at Bristol Rovers but he’s hoping a successful spell in the Blue Square Premier will persuade the League One high-flyers to offer him a new contract, which is due to expire next summer.

After being a member of the Forest Green youth team, Rigg progressed through the Filton College-based Academy to the first team at Bristol Rovers.

The 21-year-old has made an impression on his return the New Lawn with six goals and is expected to extend his stay with the club to the maximum period of 93 days after being granted permission by his parent club to play in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round clash at local rivals Mangotsfield United on Saturday.

“I’m enjoying it, I’m getting my fitness up and scoring goals - there’s no reason why I can’t stay there,” Rigg told the Gazette.

“I’ve got a good momentum going, it’s good to get a run of games and get my confidence up.

“I’m totally happy with my performances, I’ve played 90 minutes in most of the games and it does help a lot.

“I’ve scored six goals so hopefully I can continue and score more if I can.”

Rigg is yet to make any decisions on his long-term future but believes he can take confidence from Bristol Rovers team-mate Andy Williams, whose impressive performances this season have encouraged boss Paul Trollope to take him off the transfer list after appearing out of favour.

He said: “I’ve got a while to go on my (Bristol Rovers) contract yet so if I keep doing well and score goals you never know what will happen.

“There’s always a chance of coming back and if I do score goals other clubs will see I’m doing well so we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”

“He (Paul Trollope) has got a few players in so you’ve got to step your game up and push yourself but there’s nothing to say I’m not going to get a contract and if I prove them wrong I don’t think the door’s shut at all.”

Rigg was taken to Forest Green by then caretaker boss David Brown and scored on his debut at Rushden and Diamonds but it is under new manager Dave Hockaday that he has really flourished.

Despite three defeats in a row which has left Forest Green stuck in the relegation zone, Rigg believes they will climb the table soon.

He said: “There’s a good bunch of lads up there, they’re all bonding well.

“The new manager has come in and sorted the lads out.

“They will be fine, we went on a six-game unbeaten run before, so they’ll definitely push on up the table and hopefully get on another run.”
