THE CLUB chair of a football team in the area has spoken of their ambitions to maintain a sustainable and all-inclusive club for their village and community.
Tytherington Rocks FC's season came to an end after a successful campaign back in Hellenic Division One West, having been transferred across from the Western League Division One the previous season.
The Rocks committee and management team were keen to secure a mid table finish after a number of tough years continually finishing in the bottom half.
Chair Tim Whittaker said: "To be honest our aspirations for this past season were to remain safe, have a decent cup run and 'punch above our weight' if we could.
"We managed all three including a run to the GFA Cup Semi Final where we lost away to Mangotsfield United."
The Rocks, who play at the Hardwicke Playing Fields in Tytherington have already begun preparations for next season including establishing a new Western Counties U18 floodlit league team as well as a new TRFC Reserve Team who will play in the Hellenic League Division 2 West.
Tim Whittaker added: "We are excited about the plans for the club going forward and these two new teams will allow more local players including youth footballers to be part of Tytherington Rocks FC.
"We have been working very hard alongside the local Parish Council and Trustees, and there plans to improve the facilities at the Hardwicke Playing Fields, not just for the football club but for the village and wider community too.
"The club has been existence for 127 years now, 88 of those based at The Hardwicke Playing Fields".
Tytherington Rocks are closely linked with Brain Tumour Support after they lost former player and groundsman Steve Smith to the disease last year.
The club is also involved with the Military Veteran's and Civilians community via their Veterans football team.
Mr Whittaker added: "Our ambition is to maintain a sustainable and all-inclusive club in Tytherington from which the village, wider community and local charities will also benefit.
"Having been involved with The Rocks for 34 years now, I'd like to build on the foundations which were put in place by local villagers and ex-players and see the club flourish for the next 127 years!!"
