BRISTOL CITY boss Liam Manning had reason to celebrate after his side won both matches during the Easter break.
Bristol City boss Liam Manning hailed “terrific character” Nahki Wells after he came off the bench to score the only goal of the game at Plymouth on Easter Monday.
Half-time substitute Wells scored the Robins’ 57th-minute winner as Argyle slumped to 21st in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone following five straight home defeats without scoring.
Manning said of the striker: “Nahki is a terrific character; I’m delighted for him that he came on and got the winner for us.
“In the first half we obviously expected them to come at us, with the home fans creating an atmosphere and getting behind them.
“And obviously their set-up was a bit more aggressive and front-footed. For the first 20-25 minutes we weathered the storm a little bit, which sometimes you have to.
“We changed it from a five to a four 20 minutes in which allowed us to get a bit more pressure. For the last 15 minutes of the first half we came back into it and were more in their half than ours.
“I thought we did a good job of seeing that through then shifting the control back to us."
On Good Friday, Bristol City beat Leicester City 1-0 with Manning paying a glowing tribute to his players after the win.
He said: “I have to admit I expected our net to bulge with the Vardy chances but Max O’Leary did an outstanding job.
“He has international ambitions with Ireland and they are looking increasingly realistic.
“We might have had a couple of penalties and the lads were terrific in carrying out our game plan. In the end, we deserved the result.
“Results have not always gone our way recently but the dividing line between success and failure in the Championship is so slim.
“I see the lads in training every day and I know how keen they are to learn and improve.
“Players like Anis Mehmeti are still at the beginnings of their careers. He can frustrate at times but his goal showed what he is capable of producing.
“You always need to ride your luck at times against quality opposition but I couldn’t be happier with the overall team performance.”
