YATE Town secured their first point of the season thanks to a 1-1 draw at Bristol Manor Farm on Bank Holiday Monday.
George Box' penalty on the stroke of half-time leveled the game up and ensured that Yate brought their losing start to the 2023/24 Southern League Division One South season to an end.
It looked as if it could be a long afternoon for The Bluebells when Evander Grubb opened the scoring in the ninth minute.
But when Dylan Lewis was brought down in the penalty area just before the half-time whistle, Box stepped up to slam the ball home off the underside of the bar to make it 1-1.
Both sides had their chances in the second half.
Aaron Sainsbury, who was awarded Yate Town’s Man of the Matc, made a brilliant double save to deny Grubb.
Down the other end, Aaron Parsons was denied from close range after a scramble in the box and a hopeful shot from distance by Dan Dempsey was well saved.
But in the end, the game finished all square in front of a healthy crowd of over 300 people.
Yate are in FA Cup action this weekend when they make the trip to Wales this coming Saturday to take on a Merthyr Town side who have won their opening 6 League games scoring 19 goals in the process.
