THERE’S a double treat in store for jazz fans at this year’s Chipping Sodbury Festival.
The opening day, Saturday, June 11, has been labelled Jazz Saturday and gives residents the opportunity to hear music at a variety of venues throughout the day.
Beginning with a Jazz Breakfast at Hampton’s Deli Café – a hugely popular event at previous Jazz Festivals – the music then moves to The Horseshoe for some exciting accordion-led jazz over lunchtime. Then the Beaufort Hunt take over through the afternoon with plenty of standards from a jazz trio, followed by early evening swing at The Squire Inn and ending with more swing and latin at the Royal Oak.
Four days later a major Festival event will be an evening concert at the Town Hall, featuring classic jazz standards from the exciting nine-piece mini-big band Jazzmaster. Each of the musicians in the band is a recognised soloist, creating an exciting approach to classic big band material. Initially conceived as an evening of music from Sid Phillips to Charlie Parker, the concert now has an extra dimension with the addition of the vivacious singer Sinead McCabe. This young lady has an ability get into the skin of jazz divas from Dinah Washington to Diana Krall whilst making their songs her own. Her sunny personality has made her a firm favourite and later in the month she’ll be one of the featured singers at one of the biggest jazz in the country, the Upton upon Severn Jazz Festival.
Tickets for this not-to-be-missed concert are priced £8 and can be obtained from Swagger in the High Street and the Chipping Sodbury Post Office.
