A WELSH metal sculptor has set his sights on Thornbury to showcase his latest "upcycling" artwork.

Barry Lewis's animal kingdom, fashioned entirely out of disused metallic objects, a process known as upcycling, is currently on display at Castle School's Octagon Gallery.

Made out of cutlery to gravy boats, piano pedals to bike handles, the characters brought to life include crocodiles, elephants, giraffes and saw fish.

Head of art at Castle School, Andrea Hazlehurst, told the Gazette: "We are very excited to present the incredible scrap metal sculptures produced by Welsh artist Barry Lewis.

"The sheer number of sculptures Barry has created so far in his career is prolific, and year by year, they seem to grow in size and imagination, as he makes, breaks and recreates."

She added: "The students at The Castle School have already been amazed at the ability to produce such creations from reclaimed materials." The gallery will be open to the public from 9am-4.30pm for the duration of the show, which ends on October 11.

The school will host a late viewing on the October 3 until 7pm. Visitors will have a chance to try their hand at upcycling at the event.

Entry to the exhibition is free.
