A TRIAL date has been set for two men charged with the murder of a 38-year-old man in Yate.

Nixon Apire, 30, from Great North Road, Barnet, London and Nathan Skeen, 28, of Ermine Road, Lewisham, London, appeared at Bristol Crown Court yesterday charged with the murder of Jason Betts.

They have been remanded in custody to appear before Bristol Crown Court again on Friday, June 26 and a provisional trial date has been set for August 10, which is expected to last for two to three weeks.

The men have been charged with the murder of Mr Betts who was found unconscious at his flat in Celestine Road, Yate, on Thursday, March 5, and later died at Southmead Hospital.

A post-mortem carried out by a Home Office pathologist concluded he had died from a head injury.

The court appearance was Skeen and Apire's second court appearance after having a short hearing at North Avon Magistrates’ Court in Yate on March 13, where they only spoke to confirm their names, ages and addresses.

A 37-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with the investigation and he has been released from his bail without charge.
