A COUPLE has taken on the challenge of running their first pub in Thornbury.
The White Lion, in High Street, has welcomed its new landlord, Mark Hamilton, and his wife and landlady Sabina.
The pair, who have lived in Holland, Weston-super-Mare and now Thornbury over the past few years, opened the doors to their new home and workplace on August 2.
Mr Hamilton, 36, said they are keen to introduce fresh ideas and provide a family pub, especially in the daytime and weekends for the community.
“I have a background in the marketing and social media areas, and we wanted to work together also using Sabina’s experience in the tourism industry.
“We have never worked at or run a pub before – we just saw a photo of The White Lion, and when we visited the area, we became extremely keen on it.
“Thornbury is a lovely place with a strong community spirit, which we want to be a part of.
“As well as being a pub for the whole family, we aim to renovate the garden and build a play area for kids in the next year - we want to also bring a club sort of feel back with later opening times and weekly entertainment.”
Mrs Hamilton, 36, was keen to work part-time after being a full-time mum to the pair’s sons – Max, five and Tom, 18 months.
