LONG-established Chipping Sodbury Bakery Hobbs House has opened its new and improved shop in the town.
Fabulous Baker Brothers Tom and Henry Herbert, who help manage the family-run business, reopened the refurbished shop yesterday (Friday, April 29) to applause and a warm welcome from deputy town mayor Cllr Wendy Whittle.
She said: “It is nice to see the shop back to how it was when it first opened here.
“Hobbs is such a good business for Chipping Sodbury and we really appreciated it in the town and how involved they get with the community.
“We can always call on them and I wish them well with the new refurbishment.”
The shop on High Street, the expanding company’s original bakery, has been closed all week while it underwent a reworking which includes a new window bar, a larger display counter and the reverting of the café back to a large kitchen.
“We have gone back to our roots,” said Tom. “The Chipping Sodbury shop is our family home, this is Hobbs House, but over the last 15 years we have opened shops in Nailsworth, Tetbury and Malmesbury where we have been able to try different things.
“Now we have come full circle and have taken the best bits of what we have done elsewhere and which allow us to show off here.”
Freshly-prepared salads and a wider selection of sandwiches are now available at the shop as well as a summer range of cakes and tiffin which are all made on site. Hot drinks will still be available from Hobbs, which has headquarters on Hatters Lane.
