PLANNED closures of the Bristol ring road this weekend has been cancelled due to poor weather.
The work, which will see the westbound carriageway of the A4174 between Bromley Heath roundabout and Hambrook traffic lights being resurfaced, was meant to take place from today until Sunday.
But due to the wet forecast, South Gloucestershire Council have said they will push back the work, with dates yet to be announced.
Mark King, South Gloucestershire Council’s head of street care and transport, said: “Unfortunately we are unable to resurface the carriageway efficiently during heavy rain, so we are postponing the planned A4174 closures this weekend.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. This resurfacing work will be rescheduled and we will confirm the new dates as soon as possible.”
The other planned A4174 closures will still take place from August 22, and further updates will be provided when this postponed work has been rescheduled.
These include full overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway between Wick Wick and Lyde Green roundabouts between 8pm and 6am from August 22 to September 1 and from September 7 to 9, and full overnight closure of the westbound carriageway at the Hambrook traffic lights from 8pm on Monday 5 September until 6am on Tuesday 6 September.
The roads will be fully open during the day and at weekends.
The council have said they have informed local residents and businesses ahead of the closures and have notified the emergency services and advised them of access routes.
Advance warning signs will also be displayed and alternative routes will be clearly signed throughout the duration of the closures.
