A 24-YEAR-OLD Cam man is facing "an extremely serious allegation" of abducting a girl aged 16.
Sam Hewings, of Hadley Road, Cam, appeared at Gloucester Crown Court today (July 6) and the prosecutor, Giles Nelson, explained "He was arrested in February this year in an incident at the train station.
"This is an extremely serious allegation."
The incident occurred on Monday, February 20, a judge heard today.
Mr Nelson said that the evidence in the case would be "primarily the observations of a taxi driver as well as 'chat logs' between the defendant and the child."
He also said that the case would be "prosecuted without the complainant" and comprised of "fairly technical evidence."
The court heard that the charge will be contested by Hewings.
Steve Young, defending, said "There is a psychological report.
"I will need to seek a further report regarding fitness to plead and fitness to stand trial.
Judge Michael Cullum said to Hewings: "I have fixed your trial for Monday, September 18 for the offence of dhild abduction.
"You are next due back at court on Thursday, August 3, when there will be a thorough investigation of what the crown says and what your defence say.
"You are remanded in custody until that date."
