ASPIRING DJs are being invited to a free workshop hosted by the organisers of an increasingly popular amateur DJ night in Dursley.
The Dursley DJ Collective, which recently gained national exposure when group member Bob Earle featured on Lauren Laverne’s Radio 6 Music show, has been running the regular event for just over a year.
Hosted at the Chantry Centre once a month with a full sound system, light show and licensed bar, the free event has welcomed dozens of DJs and hundreds of guests.
The idea was the brainchild of World Jungle’s Ben Ward who got together with a group of like-minded DJs and party people to launch the sessions at the end of 2016.
Its ethos is to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible with a wide range of genres, from disco, indie, 60s, funk, reggae, house, hip hop, breakbeat and everything in between, played on a variety of formats and with no age or skill requirements.
Forthcoming dates for the club nights are Saturdays February 3, March 3, March 31, May 19 and roughly monthly throughout the remainder of the year.
The Collective is running a ‘learn to DJ’ taster workshop from 4pm to 6pm on February 3 when budding DJs can go to the Chantry Centre and get some tips and advice on how to play on a range of formats from more experienced members of the group.
Spaces are limited. Search Dursley DJ Collective on Facebook to book. so to put your name down, or to express an interest in playing at one of the forthcoming nights, please check out the Collective’s Facebook page – search for ‘Dursley DJ Collective - Club Nights at The Chantry’.
