FLAGS created by pupils at a primary school in Kingswood are to be displayed at the National Gallery this summer.
Kingswood Primary School has been chosen as one of 25 in the country – and only five outside the South East – to have its work shown in London.
The designs were made by pupils last year and formed part of the school’s 125th anniversary celebrations last year.
In October the school put them forward to be exhibited at the National Gallery through its Take One Picture project.
Each year, staff at the gallery choose one of its paintings and ask primary schools to produce pieces from themes in the work.
Pintoricchio’s Penelope with the Suitors was chosen this year and Kingswood Primary School pupils decided to draw inspiration from a traditional horse race hosted in the artist’s Italian home city of Siena.
Before the event – a Palio – flags are paraded through the streets representing each district.
Pupils at the school, with the help of silk screen artist Nicola Davis, created a flag for each of the school’s four houses.
They will be displayed from May 9 to August 12 at the National Gallery.
