A COUNCILLOR from Yate has expressed his concern at the ongoing issue involving abandoned trollies in the Yate area.
South Gloucestershire and Yate Town Councillor John Gawn has explained how the collection of trollies being dumped around the town is causing issues.
Data collected from Trolleywise, a company that is tasked with collecting abandoned trollies all around Yate, has shown that throughout 2019 there were 826 recorded recoveries.
Of those 826 it is reported that only 293 were from the Morrisons store in the town, with the others being from a combination of other supermarkets in the area.
Speaking to the Gazette, Cllr Gawn suggested that the public needed to get better at reporting incidents where trollies were being trashed or abandoned across the town, but believes that by fixing locks to the trollies is not a solution.
“There is a problem with the trollies in the town,” Cllr Gawn said.
“We do need to do something about it because they are absolutely everywhere at the moment and they are making the area look like a bit of a mess at times.
“A lot of people are saying that it is Morrisons trollies but the data is showing that they are coming from every supermarket.
“I believe this shows that fitting locks is not the answer to the trolley problem.”
Trolleywise have asked any residents that come across any abandoned trollies to call them on 07775 531052 to speak to one of the drivers, or alternatively they can call in to the supermarket that the trolley belongs to.
