A HARD-HITTING road safety campaign featuring first hand accounts of accidents will be touring South Gloucestershire's schools next week.
The Smart Risk Heroes roadshow is part of South Gloucestershire Council's campaign to cut the number of incidents involving young drivers on the region's roads.
The show includes first hand accounts from young injury victims who have become disabled as a result of tragic accidents.
It aims to target year 11 and 12 school pupils who, statistics show, are the most likely to be at risk of collision on the roads.
Alan Hale, senior road safety officer, said: "I have watched this roadshow delivered by another authority and have seen its powerful effect on the audience.
"Various dangers are considered. It is not overtly about road safety, which can sometimes turn young people off.
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to put this into our secondary schools."
Cllr Brian Allinson, executive member for planning, transportation and strategic environment, added: "This is an excellent opportunity for young people to learn about risks in a setting which they can relate to.
"Young people can be tempted to take risks so this event focuses on why taking those risks can be a step too far and does so in a way that will enable them to think seriously about the best course of action."
