A CHRISTMAS Concert takes place at Blue Coat Primary School, Wotton-under-Edge on Saturday, December 15 (7pm). Presented by Under the Edge Arts, it will feature performances by many of the arts groups involved in the project. These include drama, a wide variety of music and singing; and there will also be the opportunity to sing carols and enjoy mulled wine and mince pies. A raffle will also be on offer. All proceeds to Wotton Arts Project, to help the future of Under the Edge Arts.
CHRISTMAS Memories by Candlelight is an event taking place at St Mary's Church, Berkeley on Saturday, December 15 (7pm). Included in the programme are Berkeley Primary School Choir, local Berkeley band Apollo XIII, Standing Stones Saxophone Group and the Stone and Woodford Silver Band, plus other local performers. Proceeds will be divided equally between Berkeley Swimming Pool Appeal (in memory of Kaye Moss) and The Salvation Army Christmas Day Party at Easton in Bristol. Wine, soft drinks and snacks will be available at the interval.
THE ALVESTON Singers Christmas Concert is giving its second performance on Friday, December 14 (7.30pm) at St Helen's Church, Alveston.
The choir will be performing lively carols from Spain and Puerto Rico as well as many from other countries with their own more traditional rhythms and harmonies. Some of the carols and songs are taken from Gaudeamus, arrangements in a variety of styles by Michael Paget, all reminding us of the birth of Christianity and its international nature today.
There will also be a chance for the audience to join in with some well-known carols and refreshments will be served in the interval. Admission is free but there will be retiring collections for the chosen charities, this year being The Meniere's Society and the Bristol Urological Institute Prostate Cancer Appeal. All money raised will be divided equally between the two charities.
