More than £2.6million of maintenance and improvement works for schools across South Gloucestershire have been unveiled by local Conservatives.

Improving school standards is the number one priority of the Council’s Conservative Administration, with this latest tranche of funding coming as part of a record £78million capital investment to build new and upgrade existing school buildings across the district.

A key aspect of the works, which range from reroofing and replacing windows to boiler works and rewiring, is to improve energy efficiency of school buildings, lowering running costs for schools whilst helping to deliver on the Council’s Climate Emergency goals.

The works being carried out over the coming year include:

• Bromley Health Infant and Junior – £250k for the replacement of boiler plants at both schools and replacement of windows and heating fan convectors in the Junior school.

• Almondsbury CoE Primary – £250k for the replacement of a boiler plant

• St Stephen’s CoE Junior – £250k for re-roofing

• St Michael’s CoE Primary, Winterbourne – £235k for re-roofing and alarm replacement

Welcoming the announcement, Councillor Erica Williams, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Employment, said: “Improving educational standards in South Gloucestershire is our top priority as local Conservatives and we want to make sure that our pupils have the best school facilities available that we are able to provide. I am delighted that we are in a position to continue our record investments into delivering new and improving existing school buildings and look forward to seeing this latest programme of works completed.”

Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall added: “I am delighted that both Iron Acton and Old Sodbury School are set to receive £100,000 each from South Gloucestershire Council for school rewiring, as well as £200,000 for roofing repairs at Alexander Hosea.
