Over the last fortnight our readers have been nominating the top 15 takeaways in Cam and Dursley, Thornbury, Yate and Sodbury.
For the next three weeks we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Gazette Series Best Takeaway 2021 winner.
This week we’re showcasing Thornbury venues, the second of which is Butties Sandwich Bar, run by Wendy Pownall, her husband and her daughter.
For more than three years the independent, family business has been serving Thornbury popular toasted wraps and sandwiches, but since lockdown they’ve had to make some changes.
The team have been keeping up with Covid restrictions by serving from the front door during summer, and letting a limited number of customers into the takeaway during the colder months.
Butties also stepped in after Thornbury lost its last butcher, providing customers with meat boxes and BBQ packs delivered to their doors.
After finding out they had made the top 15, Wendy said: “I’m really pleased; wonderful. It’s great to have the recognition, it’s been really hard for us to keep going as we’ve had staff off.
“To win would be great, I would be really proud. We’re only a small, family-run, independent business so to get something like that would be really nice.”
If you think the Butties Sandwich Bar should be crowned the best takeaway, you can vote for them using the voting coupon in this week’s paper (Thursday, March 25).
Or take a look at the other contestants we’ve profiled this week:
Simply post the coupon to: Gazette Series Best Takeaway, Redhill House, 227 London Road, Worcester, WR5 2JG.
Voting ends on Sunday April 11, 2021.
