NEXT Monday the Theatre Royal Bath's New Year's Eve Gala counts down to 2008 with an entertaining and atmospheric concert of music and song as Bath Philharmonia conducted by the charismatic Jason Thornton, perform with Operatunity winner, soprano, Jane Gilchrist.
The concert, which starts at 10pm, celebrates New Year's Eve with a programme of opera, operetta and popular and classical favourites featuring arias from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro; Ivor Novello's The Dancing Years; pieces by Puccini and Franz Lehar; Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance and, of course, Auld Lang Syne.
Jane Gilchrist shot to fame during the Channel 4 TV Talent Show Operatunity. She went on to perform the role of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto with the English National Opera at The Coliseum in front of two million TV viewers. Since then, Jane's many performances have included The Royal Albert Hall, Proms In The Park, Belfast's Last Night Of The Proms and she has featured on numerous TV shows.
Bath Philharmonia has established itself as one of the leading professional ensembles in the South West of England, boasting some of the finest and most experienced orchestral players in Britain. The orchestra is involved in 25-30 performances annually throughout the region. After Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Bath Philharmonia is the largest professional organisation of its type in the cultural sector in the South West of England.
