A PUB in Yate will be hosting a tree-planting day to celebrate and remember lives that were lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The day of celebration at Stanshawes Court will include the planting of a tree and customers will be invited to write letters to lost loved ones that will be sealed and buried underneath.
‘A circle of life’ will be created with 19 tree stumps placed around where the tree will be planted to represent the loss of lives associated with covid 19.
The fun-filled day for all of the family will include team events and have a sports-day approach with a number of games and races including barrel rolling, tyre flipping and fan-favourite an egg and spoon race.
Paul and Sue Davies, who will be celebrating running the pub for a decade in July, are currently appealing for donations for prizes for the event on July 31.
Continued on page twoPaul said: “We have been overwhelmed with the number of donations we have received so far for our raffle, but we would like to get as many as possible to raise as much money as we can for Cancer Research.”
For a donation, customers can attach their own engraved plaque on top of the tree stumps in memory of someone who passed away during the pandemic.
The inside stump will have a plaque detailing the planting of the tree.
A hog roast and BBQ will be available all day and popular local DJ Gary Webb will provide the entertainment in the pubs expansive garden space.
Paul added: “I’m looking for all my customers with their own businesses to donate vouchers for a raffle, this could be for absolutely anything.
“I want the biggest raffle we can for this.”
Over 20 prizes have been donated so far from local companies and Stanshawes Court have teamed up with a number of local businesses to offer a top prize that will include hire of their function room with staff, table cloths, a £250 bar tab, photography voucher by Martyn Stacey, and decorating by cotswold celebration.
