A centre back who started his footballing career at Yate Town football club has been selected for the England Squad in the 2021 European championships that kick off this week.

28-year-old Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings played for the Bluebells in the 2011/12 season.

The star first impressed Rob Cousin, the then Yate Town manager in pre season friendlies. In his first season at Lodge Road Tyrone played many games in the left back position and managed to score a couple of important goals for the club.

Despite beginning the following season at Yate, the talented youngster moved to join local rivals Chippenham Town, Tyrone played ten games for them before Ipswich Town made a offer and signed him.

From there the defender transferred from Bournemouth and then onto Aston Villa where he is a firm favourite for the first team.

The 28-year-old has made ten caps for England and hopes to add to that at the tournament that kicks off on Friday night with Group A teams Turkey and Italy playing the first match.

Mark Thorne, spokesman for Yate Town football club said: "The club wish Tyrone all the very best and will certainly be supporting him and the England team over the next few weeks."

England's first game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday.

Yate Town's bar will be open for Sundays match from 12pm, the club have also booked entertainment for the second game against Scotland on Friday, 13.
