GENEROSITY from the community has helped brave cancer survivor Lorna Lewis raise over £4,000 for Cancer Research.
Lorna, 53, who recently recovered from breast cancer, was featured in the Gazette in October when she organised a pink sponsored walk in Dursley.
Since the walk, she has received a huge amount of support and generosity from people and businesses in the area, helping her raise cash for a charity close to her heart.
After reading the article in the Gazette about Lorna and her dedication to raising money for vital cancer research, Phil Tudor, owner of the Kingshill Inn in Dursley, decided to help her cause.
Mr Tudor held a Halloween party at his pub, which raised £1,100 for Lorna and Cancer Research UK.
Graham and Hazel Ponting, from The Berkeley Arms pub in Dursley, also supported Lorna by holding a raffle at the pub after her sponsored walk.
Lorna's employer, Blue Diamond Cleaning Services in Gloucester, held collections for Lorna at sites all over South Gloucestershire and Bristol, which contributed to the total amount.
Lorna went back to The Berkeley Arms pub last week to celebrate the amount raised with some pink champagne and to thank everyone who have supported her so generously.
Lorna said: "I was quite overwhelmed with all the support I have received locally from pubs, businesses and individuals, and from those family and friends, that took part and gained sponsorship to support breast cancer research.
"I want to thank everyone who raised money and all those who joined in the walk for their tremendous support."
Lorna is not about to stop now, as she has joined up with the Cancer Research committee in Stroud to organise a Relay for Life'.
The group is keen to talk to anyone locally, who have gone through a cancer diagnosis, or whose families have been affected, or people who want to join and in and put in teams of family and friends to support the cause.
