New unit installed at Thornbury charity's base

Youth charity Krunch South West recently opened their new venue, The Pod, at Thornbury Skatepark.

The new unit has now been installed at the rear of The Pod, thanks to the work of volunteers.

Youthwork manager Penny Baker said: “The work that has been carried out will enable us to offer access to more groups of young people, including those with additional needs, as well as being able to provide a more extensive and creative range of activities.”

“The new unit in particular will allow us to store our equipment, provide a store for donated food and provide workshop space to teach young people practical skills.

“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and businesses in helping to achieve this extension to our service.

“Thanks to all of the support we will be hosting summer activities and events in much more suitable and accessible environment.”

Some young people with additional needs recently did some T-shirt printing at the new unit.

A group of dads, Lee Baker, Nick Morgan, John Paul Hayes and Ricky Woodman, gave up their time to landscape the area around the new unit.

They put in a new path to create disabled access around The Pod and got the ground ready for the new storage container.

John Paul and Lee are partners in Streetworks Civil Engineering Ltd.

Other businesses also offered support. Kallaway donated materials, Wessex Plant Hire donated the equipment and Magnox donated funds for the unit.

“We are blown away by the generosity of the guys, donating their time and the community for their continued support,” Penny said.
