DRIVERS in Gloucestershire are being asked to be aware of the wet and windy weather conditions when planning journeys.
The combination of these elements can make driving hazardous and road users are asked to exercise caution before starting a journey.
Inspector Dave Collicott, of the road policing unit, had this advice for drivers.
"The first thing I would always recommend motorists to think about before setting off is have they allowed enough time to complete their journey?
"When the weather is wet and windy there is the potential for blockages on the roads due to fallen trees and collisions.
"Trying to reach a destination within a tight time-scale increases stress and the potential for an incident."
Motorists are also asked to check their vehicle is in good condition before setting out on journeys.
Insp Collicott continued: "You should always check that tyres are in good condition and at the right pressures.
"Also If it is possible remove roof racks and other items that are likely to be dislodged or cause problems with side winds. This also helps with fuel economy.
"Drivers should also be aware of the potential of changes in side winds effects when passing, or being passed by, large vehicles or when entering/leaving areas of natural protection, for example bridges, wooded areas, large walls or hoardings."
