THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for tonight.
Heavy rain is expected to move across the South West during the evening and bring with it 15 mm of rain in just three hours.
The public are being advised to take care and pay close attention to local radio and the Environment Agency website.
Officials at Gloucestershire County Council have said despite the county not being specifically mentioned in the weather warning, neighbouring counties are and they would therefore be closely monitoring the situation.
After heavy rain this morning several road closures remain in place across the county but mainly in the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean areas.
However, motorists are being advised to avoid the B4066 at Taits Hill.
Chief Inspector Bridget Woodhall, of Gloucestershire Police, said: "It is important to remember that all agencies are on standby with emergency response teams ready to react should it be necessary.
"We would ask people in the county to remain vigilant. Keep listening to local radio and checking the internet for updates."
