A CAMPAIGN has been launched for a one-way system around part of Dursley's town centre to reduce accidents.
Liberal Democrat party members believe the Silver Street pinch point', where the road narrows, is a dangerous area, where "radical" changes need to be made.
One idea is to create a one-way system, in which the Crest Nicholson site that starts at Long Street would be one-way and loop round to meet the pinch point' in Silver Street.
The party is also looking at the idea of creating shared spaces', which are pedestrianised areas with traffic.
Cllr Dennis Andrewartha, county councillor for Cam and Dursley, said: "What I am concerned about is that it is not going to get safer in Silver Street and it is not going to get less busy in Dursley, so we need to look at things more radically.
"After some discussion with the local highways and in a sub group meeting of the GL11 stakeholder group, which includes local councillors, I asked if we could look into the potential of a one-way system.
"In the first instance the town council need to accept it. But we do not just want another set of traffic lights, which will just make Dursley gridlocked."
Dursley town councillor Brian Marsh added: "We have had three people tell us they have been hit by vehicles while walking on the pavement along the pinch point, they were hit on the arm or side of the body.
"Also one man tripped and fell in front of a car there. This is what really started everything off."
They would like to hear from members of the public who have had an accident or agree that Silver Street is unsafe.
Cllr Marsh added: "The county council won't do anything unless we show there is some local support, so we hope people will come forward."
