Below is a list of some of the services taking place across the district on both Thursday, November 11 - Armistice Day - and Remembrance Sunday - November 14.

Chipping Sodbury

The Parade will muster at 2.30pm on Rounceval Street. They will proceed to the War Memorial on Broad Street at 2.45pm and the Remembrance Service will be at 3.00pm.

Mayor James Ball said: “We are expecting a huge turnout after the 2020 service was minimised due to the lockdown restrictions.”

Sunday - Remembrance Sunday

Alderston

People will meet at the Memorial at 10.50am and there will be a short service to follow in the Church. In light of the high cases in the area, you are asked to observe social distancing.

Berkeley

There will be a Remembrance service at St Mary’s Church between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Charfield

The Civil Act of Remembrance will see the procession leave the Memorial Hall at approximately 10.45am and the act of remembrance will commence at 10.50am at the War Memorial. A two minutes silence will be observed at 11am.

Dursley

On Thursday, November 11 a wreath will be laid at the World War 2 memorial at 11am.

The World War 2 memorial is located at the pavilion on the War Memorial Recreation Ground, Dursley.

And then on Sunday, November 14 there will be a Remembrance Day parade in the town centre.

Participants are asked to assemble at the bus station in May Lane, Dursley at 2.15pm.

At 2.30pm, the parade will leave the bus station and then head via May Lane, Castle Street and Silver Street to outside St James’ Church and then continue in to Long Street.

At 3pm, the Remembrance service starts at the Memorial Gates outside St James’ Church. At 3.30pm wreaths will be laid at the gates for the Act of Remembrance, and then the parade will reform and dismiss.

North Nibley

There will be a Service of Remembrance and wreath laying at the War Memorial at 10.45am, before you can go back to the Chapel for coffee and cake. There will also be a display of local World War One photos between 11.15am and 4pm. 

Thornbury/Oldbury
A service will be held at 10.30am at St Mary’s Church in Thornbury. There will also be an evening service at 6pm at St Arilda’s Church in Oldbury-on-Severn.


Tytherington
At 10.30am the parade will march up the hill towards St James’ Church, ready for a Remembrance Service to begin at the church at 11am. 
Thornbury Town Band will be in attendance.

Wotton-Under-Edge

The parade will start from the Chipping at 10.40am, which will proceed along Market Street, Long Street, and Church Street, arriving at the War Memorial in Old Town. The Civic Service will then take place at the memorial including the two minutes silence, playing of the National Anthem, and the laying of wreaths.

The parade will then continue along Culverhay to St Mary’s Parish Church where the parade will be dismissed. It will be followed by a short service in the Church and all ages are welcome to attend.

Yate

There will be a parade, made up of dignitaries, community groups, representatives etc, who will parade from Poole Court at 9.25am to St Mary’s Church.

Once at the church, those in attendance will be ushered into the church (or into the church hall / car park) for the service to begin at 10am. Due to the number of local COVID cases rising, it was decided to reduce the number of people within the church and to use the church hall and car park as additional space for people to attend the service.

There will be audio relay of the service in the car park and visual & audio relay of the service in the church hall.

Before 11am, the congregation will exit the church where they will gather around the Lych Gate for the 2 minutes silence.

After this, representatives will be called to lay their wreath at the Lych Gate followed by a few prayers.

Following the service at the Lych Gate, there is a small service held at the Parnall Grave where wreaths are laid, followed by prayers.
