AS A result of rain, four roads are currently closed. With further rain forecast, Gloucestershire residents are being urged to make sure they get the latest updates before planning journeys this weekend and to take extra care on the roads.
The roads now closed are Toadsmoor Road at Brimscombe, the B4213 between Tirley and Apperley at Haw Bridge, the South Cerney Road at Siddington, near Cirencester and the A417 at Maisemore.
Although the rainfall so far is not unusual for this time of year, police are constantly monitoring the situation from Silver Control. Established as a precautionary measure at Police headquarters at Waterwells, this ensures resources are in place should the situation worsen and that partner agencies are working closely together and ready to respond.
Today's Silver Commander, Chief Inspector Paul Riddick, said: "While there are very few road closures at the moment, with more rain forecast and the ground already saturated, localised flooding is likely and there could be some disruption to the transport network.
"Please therefore continue to be vigilant and keep checking forecasts and flood warnings for the latest updates, especially before setting out on journeys and take particular care driving while the roads are wet, allowing plenty of braking distance. Remember too to check your brakes after going through any standing water.
"It's business as usual for us so far but we are ready to respond should the weather situation worsen. Please do your bit by exercising common sense and keeping up to date with the latest information. Listen to local radio stations for messages and keep an eye on the Environment Agency's website or call their Flood line 0845 988 1188."
