A 29 year old Dursley man has pleaded guilty to robbing a woman of her car at knifepoint in Abbeymead, Gloucester, last month and he will be sentenced in February.

At Gloucester Crown Court last Friday (Dec 17) Sam Broder of The Crapen, Dursley, admitted robbing Christine Burton of a Hyundai Coupe in Mead Road, Abbeymead on November 5th.

Broder also admitted driving the car without valid insurance in Salter Street, Berkeley; driving with excess alcohol by having 46 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath and possessing a lock knife in Salter Street on the same date.

Judge Ian Lawrie said it was "very clearly a very serious matter" and he asked the probation service to interview Broder at court.

The probation officer reported back, after interviewing the defendant, and told the judge that Broder’s mental health issues were 'complex' and he needed a lengthier investigation by a specialist.

Judge Lawrie told Broder: “The court needs to explore a number of issues. This includes a psychiatric assessment of your mental health, as highlighted by your family, because you were involved in a very serious crime, having not been convicted for anything before.”

Broder was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the court on February 18th 2022.
