ASSURANCES have been given that no cuts will be made to flood funding in Gloucestershire, despite a £5 million cut in capital flood schemes across the Midlands.
The Environment Agency, a government body, has assured residents in the county that although proposals have been put forward to put back capital spending for one or two years in the Midlands, none of this will affect Gloucestershire.
Capital programmes, which are usually large engineering works, in the Midlands will be funded in another financial year, but none of these capital programmes appears in Gloucestershire.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: "The allocation is lower in 2008/09 due to reprogramming of our capital work programme in the Midlands, so the amount removed from this year's allocation will appear in other financial years instead.
"This will have no impact on our plans for Gloucestershire. The expected allocation will allow our planned works within the Midlands region to go ahead and, in addition, the Regional Flood Defence Committee have approved the spend of Local Levy monies across the Midlands Region including in Gloucester."
