AN ANNUAL charity swimming challenge will be back in Thornbury this March after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic.
The Swimarathon, one of Thornbury's biggest fundraising events is set to return in March and organisers, Thornbury Rotary are hoping it will be as popular as ever.
Teams of up to six swimmers swim in relays for 55 minutes to try and swim as many lengths as possible in the sponsored event.
Last year, innovative members of the Rotary decided to host a Thornbury Walkathon when the Swimarathon was cancelled and still raised a huge mount of money for a number of charities.
This year 'Made a Mark' a charity that makes memories for bereaved children and Children's Hospice South West a charity that provides hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their whole family are the principle charities the Rotary Club are trying to raise funds for.
A spokesperson for Thornbury Rotary Club said: "Having cancelled the event in 2021 due to COVID, the organisers are keen to turn this year’s Swimarathon into a popular and even more successful fundraiser.
"Thornbury Rotary is in the process of generating lots of interest, seeking corporate sponsors and, of course, teams of swimmers who are keen to take part.
"Donors will be able to sponsor individual swimmers, or their teams, either online through the Rotary Swimarathon Just Giving page, or through sponsorship forms."
Paul Glover President of Thornbury Rotary Club added : "I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those who wish to be involved in Swimarathon 2022, supporting this community event, and helping to raise funds for such important causes."
