A COMMUNITY association faces imminent closure because it cannot raise enough funds to keep going.
Frampton Cotterell and District Community Association's Crossbow House is used every night of the week by over 30 clubs and organisations.
But the association could be forced to fold and sell off its popular meeting rooms because of a drop in user clubs' membership and rises in building maintenance costs.
Leaders of the association say it needs to raise an extra £5,000 a year if it is to keep going.
They have arranged an extraordinary general meeting on January 31 in a last ditch attempt to save it from closure.
Chairman of the association John Bone said: "The situation has become desperate. Since our formation we have sought to provide facilities and resources to meet the needs of a wide variety of group activities.
"But due to ever rising operating costs and falling incomes, we are now in a position where we can no longer balance our books and we cannot continue in our present form.
"We need thousands of pounds more per year just to remain solvent but we are not looking for financial donations as they will only delay the closure by some time.
"We need help and support to come up with a plan that will provide a revenue stream that will enable us to move forward."
The association was formed in 1968 and later purchased Crossbow House in 1973 for its headquarters.
It is used every night of the week by a variety of village organisations, including table tennis, camera and folk dance clubs.
Without the association, all the clubs would have to find somewhere else to meet.
Mr Bone said the upcoming meeting was set to decide on one of three likely outcomes for the group: - Close the association and dispose of its assets - Close Crossbow House and use proceeds to keep association running at an alternative venue - A collaborative arrangement for the management of Crossbow House, including the bar, which could increase revenue and allow the venue to continue operating.
He has called on anybody living in the association's area of benefit' to come and lend their support at the upcoming meeting.
The meeting will take place at the Crossbow House, School Road, on January 31 (8pm).
