I SHOT Dirty Den is a new one-man show performed by the man responsible for one of soap opera's most iconic moments - the man who shot Dirty Den' Watts It can be seen at the Rondo Theatre, Bath on Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16.
In 1989, Pavel Douglas played East End gangster Gregory Mantel, in a six-month plot line that had viewers on the edges of their seats.
Now, Pavel Douglas has teamed up with ex-Rondo director Andy Burden, whose recent shows Old World and Alice Through The Looking Glass have enjoyed rave reviews and who received the prestigious Top Thespian 2007 awarded by Venue Magazine.
"I had the idea of a show for Pavel about his role in Eastenders, but when Den came back from the dead, it made it all a bit more relevant", confided Andy.
Pavel added: "I couldn't believe it when Den returned - I thought that's made a mockery of my whole part and storyline, in fact did Gregory Mantel ever exist?
"And if he did, then why?"
Over a meal one night Pavel also told Andy some of his amazing life history: parented by two actors, his life spans Edinburgh, Warsaw, London, Strasbourg, Orkney - much more to tell than a few anecdotes about a soap opera.
Pavel and Andy met working with Bath's famous Natural Theatre Company.
Andy said: "Pavel had me in stitches - it was hard not to laugh.
"He's a great performer."
Pavel and Andy have co-written this show (directed by Andy Burden) - it tells the story of Pavel's amazing life, interwoven with some hilarious acts or stories and some blatant lies: it will be up to the audience to decide which is which..
