A MAJOR revamp at Thornbury's Tesco store has also brought a boost for a local charity.
Hammer Out, set up to fund brain tumour research and support victims and families, is £500 better off thanks to a donation from the store.
Store manager Stewart Collins made the presentation to charity founder and chief executive Tina Mitchell, who cut the ribbon to relaunch the "refreshed" supermarket.
Tina said: "This money is enormously welcome. It will help us to continue our work helping patients and carers whose lives are devastated by a brain tumour diagnosis."
Mr Collins said: "We're very pleased to be able to make a donation to Hammer Out, helping people in our local community."
Tina, from Alveston, set up the group in 2002 after her husband Paul was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He died aged 37 in 2003.
The charity raises awareness of brain tumours and supports the needs of those affected by them, as well as raising money for brain and cancer related research.
The changes at the Midland Way supermarket have meant the loss of the store cafe but bosses say the modernisation is enabling them to stock a wider range of food items, including a new in store bakery and an extended range of fresh food and dairy products, as well as offering an extensive health and beauty range.
"I am sure shoppers will be happy with the improvements we've made to the store," said Mr Collins.
