THIEVES have targeted the same street in Yate where 24 cars were vandalised last week.

Residents of Bredon have been left fearful of parking their vehicles outside their homes following the rampage of vandalism overnight between January 19 and 20 and the two latest incidents overnight between Thursday, January 24 and Friday, January 25.

In the latest attack thieves broke into two cars and stole car stereos and CDs.

Police told the Gazette this week that they believe Bredon is being deliberately targeted by criminals.

Chipping Sodbury neighbourhood policing sergeant Andy McIlrath said: "We would appeal for any witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

"We also want to ensure that people are aware that this area has been targeted by what we believe are travelling criminals."

Following last week's vandalism, when two dozen cars were scratched with a key, police are now backing calls for a wall to be built blocking a public pathway.

Sgt McIlrath said: "Police are supporting Northavon MP Steve Webb's attempt to try and have a wall built where there is a cut through from Shire Way in the Abbotswood direction.

"This appears to be the route taken by the people who committed this damage."

Mr Webb told the Gazette he has contacted South Gloucestershire Council suggesting that a wall might pose a solution to the crime in Bredon.

"I am certainly concerned about the vandalism and I am keen for the council to look at options of making it more difficult for criminals," he said. "We need to address the problem."

Dodington ward councillors Alan Lawrance and Kay Crowe have been consulted on the proposals and will discuss the issue at the next full council meeting in February.
