For Christians throughout the world Good Friday is the occasion of prayers and processions to remember the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Every year Thornbury Churches Together organise a procession through the town to witness to the continuing power of this sacrifice.
This year they followed a new cross built by members of Thornbury Men’s Shed.
Over 100 Christians from all the churches in the town came together in the garden of Christ the King Church to join in the commemoration.
After a bible reading, prayers and a hymn the crowd processed behind the cross to the high street with stops beside the Methodist Church and Thornbury Town Hall.
At each stop a further reading from the Passion of Christ was followed by hymns and prayers led by members of the Christian community of Thornbury.
The final stop for the procession was at outside the Baptist Church where the final burial of Christ was described along with more singing and prayers.
Hot cross buns and hot drinks were then served in the church hall.
