A MAIN road in Chipping Sodbury is set to close for three months whilst major works take place.

Heron way will be closed from Monday, June 6 for 12 weeks as work starts to reopen the right-hand turn on for all vehicles.

The right-hand turning was agreed to be reinstated after a campaign by local residents and MP Luke Hall.

Following the roadworks that include installing a traffic light cars will no longer have to drive down Kennedy way towards Yate Shopping Centre if the journey needs them to head in the opposite direction.

When it was agreed a spokesperson for the local conservatives said: “We are delighted that our campaign to reinstate the right-hand turn from Heron Way onto Kennedy Way has been successful. This will help get Chipping Sodbury and Yate moving, create a greener road network, and prevent knock-on congestion in our local towns and villages.”

Luke Hall added: “Re-opening the right-hand turn off Heron Way has been a key part of my Positive Plan for transport in South Gloucestershire for a long time, and I am delighted that the council have agreed to our proposals. This gets us one step further to getting South Gloucestershire Moving!"
