A HUGELY talented photographer who regularly takes pictures for the Gazette was recognised by the Mayor of Yate in an award presentation to mark the end of his term as mayor.
Rich McD, an award-winning photographer was presented with the award by Councillor Karl Tomasin for his dedicated service to the community.
Karl said that Rich regularly attends community events and takes pictures, for free, which he then allows to be shared for everyone to enjoy, despite photography being his full time profession.
Rich was also recognised for his service as one of the chairs of Chipping Sodbury's chamber of commerce.
Councillor Karl Tomasin along with James Ball, Mayor of Sodbury and Councillor Chris Zapata, chair of Dodington Parish council gave out a number of awards to groups chosen for their selfless hard work, community spirit and dedicated support to the people Yate and Chipping Sodbury.
Entertainment was provided for the evening with performances from world class athletes including King Edmunds Acrogymnasts and world champion Irish dancer Rosie Rendell.
Redds Dance Group, Yate Academy students Yasmin Davis, Year 10 pianist Enoch Wong also showcased their talent as well as a scene from Blood Brothers performed by Billy and Joe.
Bradley Ford, a student at Castle School also gave a presentation on his plans for his 2023 trip with Global Action in Borneo, where he will spend 3 weeks volunteering.
The Yate Town Council’s Civic Service awards mark the end of Councillor Karl Tomasin’s term as Mayor and Chair of Yate Town Council.
Councillor Tomasin said:“ It has been an honour and privilege to serve Yate town as Mayor for these past 3 years. I'm so pleased that I had an opportunity to showcase a small portion of the diverse, talented and gifted young people in our community.
"It was humbling to be able to celebrate and acknowledge a few of the individuals and community groups who do so much in our community each and every day.
Other awards were presented to Project Dragonfly CIC, Sodbury & Yate Cleanup, Yasmins Dance, Zest Fundraising and Abdulhaq “Q”
