A POLICE helicopter was called out to help with a police chase through village lanes near Wickwar last Thursday night.

Police called for the helicopter when two men who allegedly broke into an industrial yard at the Arnold Field Estate fled from approaching officers at about 8.20pm.

The two men, who had been caught on CCTV cameras, drove away from police in a white Ford Transit van.

Thornbury Sector Sergeant Craig Ogbourne said: "Police on foot and in the air pursued the van through the lanes from Wickwar to Cromhall, where it finally stopped.

"When the van stopped one man was arrested while the other got away on foot.

"The area was searched using police dogs and the helicopter but the offender could not be found.

"We believe he must have hidden in a building and we are appealing for help from people in the area.

"The male arrested was taken to Southmead police station for questioning."

Anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in or around Cromhall on Thursday night should call police on 0845 456 7000.
