CAM is set to sparkle for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as new celebration lights twinkle in the trees for the lighting of the beacon.

In keeping with tradition the beacon will be lit at Cam Park on Thursday evening to mark Queen Elizabeth’s historic 70-year reign.

Seven trees around the car park on Noel Lee Way will also glimmer with celebration lights. The beacon will be lit for one evening only but the tree lights will be switched on from 9.45pm until 11pm every night of the four-day bank holiday break.

The warm white celebration lights were largely funded by Gloucestershire County Council’s Build Back Better Market Town’s fund which aimed to regenerate and rejuvenate communities getting back onto their feet after the Covid pandemic.

The lights have been wrapped into the trees and will be switched on at festivities and community events for years to come.

A spokesperson for Cam Parish Council said: "We are really looking forward to the events- our offices will be open for parishioners to call in and write a commemorative message in a special celebratory book which will be sent on to Buckingham Palace.

"Young people all over Cam have been joining in with the Jubilee celebrations with special Royal themed events, including flag making and taking part in the beacon trail for Cam and Dursley."

In Dursley a tree was planted to commemorate the occasion.
