A TEAM of former Manchester United players were no match for Bluebells legends at the South West Interiors Stadium on Sunday.

Yate Town Football Club hosted a team of Manchester United veterans in a community football match that saw premier league players from United, along with guests that included legendary Peter Beardsley and Bristol City favourite Scott Murray, be beaten 5-3 at the hands of some of Lodge Road's finest footballers.

David May, Champions League winner held a Q & A session for fans with Gazette Reporter Leanne Woodruff before the match and predicted the Man United team would squeeze a 4-3 win, but Leanne, placed the odds at Yate beating them 2-0.

The match was sponsored by CL Electrical controls, who build and install telecommunications and electrical control panels.

Director for CL, Shaun Base, who attended the game said: "It was just a fantastic day out, well done to all involved at the club. Peter Beardsley, was a class act, he stayed out on the pitch for ages signing autographs after the game- it was fantastic to watch.

"We are proud to have been able to be a part of the day."

Manchester United also had three players bid to play on the squad- with super-sub Oliver Stacey getting two of the their three goals.

However, the veterans were out classed by the Bluebells side, managed by director of football Richard Thompson who said it was a fantastic day for the club.

Yate Town now look towards the next season with their first home match on August, 13.
