A 40-year-old Dursley woman who was involved in a car accident while driving with more than four times the legal alcohol limit on her breath has been given a suspended jail term and ordered not to drink for 90 days.

Kirsty Kendall, of Frederick Thomas Road, Dursley, was convicted in April of driving a Mini on the B4509 at Wotton under Edge with excess alcohol in her breath on March 11 this year and was sentenced by Cheltenham Magistrates last Thursday (21 July).

The court heard that she was found to have 142mcgs of alcohol on her breath - the legal limit being 35mcgs.

The magistrates sentenced her to an eight week jail term suspended for a year.

They said a custodial sentence was necessary because of the 'high alcohol reading, involved in an accident, and intended to drive further.'

She was banned from driving for 34 months but was told she can reduce the disqualification by 34 weeks if she satisfactorily completes a Government approved driving course at her own expense by April 18, 2024.

Kendall was also placed under supervision for 12 months with an Alcohol Abstinence Requirement.

She must abstain from consuming any alcohol throughout that period.

A rehabilitation activity requirement was also imposed on her and she was ordered to pay costs and surcharges totalling £213.
